Policy

Donor & subscriber privacy

We collect the minimum we need, our processors hold the sensitive parts, and our lists are never sold. Here is the whole policy, in plain language.

What we collect

When you subscribe to our updates, we collect your name (if you provide it) and your email address, along with a tag recording where on the site you signed up. When you donate, we also record the amount and date of your gift. If you write to us, we keep the correspondence.

Payment information

Payment card and wallet details are collected and held by our payment processors, not by us. We never see or store full card numbers or private keys.

Website analytics & cookies

We measure how people find and use this website, in two ways.

Our own page counter. A first-party counter records the page you viewed, the website that referred you, your country, and whether you are on a phone, tablet or desktop. It sets no cookies. It never stores your IP address or your browser’s user-agent string — only a one-way daily hash of them, so we can estimate how many separate people visited without being able to identify any of them.

Google Analytics 4. We also use Google Analytics 4, so we can see which pages actually answer people’s questions and which searches bring them here. Unlike our own counter, Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser (named _ga and _ga_ plus an identifier) to recognize a returning browser, and it collects the pages you view, your approximate location, your device and browser, and how you arrived. We have configured it as narrowly as it allows:

  • IP anonymization is on. Your full IP address is not stored.
  • Google signals is off. What you read here is not linked to your Google account and is not followed across your devices.
  • Ad personalization is off. We run no advertising, remarketing or cross-site tracking features of any kind.
  • No cross-domain tracking. We do not follow you to or from any other website.
  • Retention. Google deletes the event-level data after 2 months and the user-level data after 14 months.

Do Not Track is honored. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, neither our counter nor Google Analytics runs at all: no cookie is set and no request is made to Google. You can also install Google’s Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or block cookies for this site in your browser settings. Nothing on this site needs analytics to work.

Analytics is aggregate traffic measurement, kept separate from everything above. We never join it to your name, email or donation record, and we never use it to work out who an individual visitor is.

We never sell our lists

We do not sell, rent, or trade donor or subscriber information — to anyone, for any price.

We also do not share donor or subscriber data with any for-profit business, including any business owned by our directors or officers.

Our affiliated organization

Digital Asset Tax Action is affiliated with Digital Asset Tax Advocacy, a legally separate Section 501(c)(4) social welfare organization. The two organizations maintain their own donor and subscriber lists. Any list sharing between the affiliates occurs only on documented, arm’s-length terms, and signups are tagged at the source so that every message you receive is attributable to the organization that sent it.

Email & unsubscribe

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribe requests are honored promptly, and you can also ask us at any time to correct or delete the information we hold about you.
