Privacy policy

Advocacy runs on trust. Here is exactly what we collect, what we do with it, and what we will never do with it.

What we collect

When you take action with Digital Asset Tax Advocacy, we collect what the action requires and nothing more:

  • Name and email — when you sign up for updates, sign the practitioner letter, share a story, or donate.
  • ZIP code — so we can connect you with your own members of Congress and report campaign reach.
  • Action history — which campaigns you have taken action on, so we can tell you what happened next and avoid asking twice.

Payment details are handled by our payment processors and are not stored on our systems. We keep name, email, and contribution amount for our own records.

Donor confidentiality

As a 501(c)(4) organization, Digital Asset Tax Advocacy does not report the names or addresses of its donors to the IRS. Under current IRS rules, only contribution amounts are reported. And we never sell, rent, or exchange our donor list — to anyone, for any reason.

How we use your information

We use it to run the campaigns you joined: sending updates on the legislation we are tracking, telling you when your voice matters most, and reporting aggregate campaign numbers (never individual identities without your explicit consent). We do not use your information for anything unrelated to this mission.

Website analytics & cookies

Two things count traffic on this website, and both cover the pages you are reading now.

Our own page counter records the page, the site that referred you, your country and your device type. It sets no cookies, and it never stores your IP address or user-agent — only a one-way daily hash of them, so we can count separate visitors without being able to identify one.

Google Analytics 4 tells us which bills and campaigns people actually read. Unlike our own counter, it sets cookies in your browser (named _ga and _ga_ plus an identifier) to recognize a returning browser, and it collects the pages you view, your approximate location, your device and browser, and how you got here. We turned off everything Google let us turn off:

  • IP anonymization is on — your full IP address is not stored.
  • Google signals is off — the bills you read here are not linked to your Google account and are not followed across your devices.
  • Ad personalization is off. We run no ads, no remarketing and no cross-site tracking. Reading about a bill here will not follow you around the internet.
  • No cross-domain tracking.
  • Retention — Google deletes the event-level data after 2 months and the user-level data after 14 months.

Do Not Track is honored. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, neither the counter nor Google Analytics runs: no cookie is set and no request goes to Google. You can also install Google’s Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or block cookies for this site in your browser settings. Nothing here needs analytics to work.

Analytics never touches your record. It is aggregate traffic measurement and is kept entirely separate from the information above. It is never joined to your name, email, ZIP code, action history or contribution, and it is never used to work out who signed the letter or who shared a story.

Our affiliated organization

Digital Asset Tax Advocacy is affiliated with Digital Asset Tax Action, a legally separate education and research organization. The email-updates list is administered jointly, with each signup tagged by its source, so if you subscribe in either section of this website you may receive updates from both organizations. Unsubscribing stops both. Donor records are never shared between the organizations, and funds are never shared or transferred between them.

Unsubscribe

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email advocacy@digitalassettax.org and ask to be removed, corrected, or told what we have on file — we will honor all three.
